Legal advice for teenage daughter and granddaughter.?

Our teenage daughter and baby granddaughter are living with us until she graduates from high school. The father, and more specifically, his mom, are very irresponsible. We are looking at legal options so if we needed to take the baby to doctor appointments, or if something were to happen to our daughter, we would be responsible for the baby. Are there other options than guardianship? What would be our best choice?Legal advice for teenage daughter and granddaughter.?
If your daughter is a minor, she is completely under your watch... legally and morally. Minors don't have any rights until they hit 18, and even then, not as long as she is under your roof... capice?

You probably need to check with the state laws, but since this is so, I would say that the baby is also technically your responsibility while under your roof.

You do need to file for guardianship in order to get full custody of the baby, since the baby-daddy would legally be the second in line if your daughter were to die.

You need to get the forms and file for child support, and preferably also file definitions on visitation.Legal advice for teenage daughter and granddaughter.?
Have the mother of your grandchild write permission to

act on the child's behalf in case of an emergency and

have the document notarized. This will then become a

legal document and hospitals will accept it. If your daughter

has sole custody then I would keep a copy of the court order

giving her custody with you as well. Talk with a lawyer to find out if there is anything else that needs to be done but

that should cover it. Good luck.
I mean, why would you not want guardianship? You could always get temporary custody, if you do get custody, ask family members who would be on board to help take care of the children. Because bottom line is that if no one in the family takes on the responsibility and the parents don't have custody, they're going into foster care and I don't think you want that to happen. Now if you do get custody of the children, then you could make the parents pay child support and they would most likely have to take care of the medical insurance as well. You would need to contact the Dept of Family and children services in your state to see what can be done through their laws because everyone has different laws.
